This "two-part" NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to both own and shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols safely and responsibly.
This class covers firearms safety, secure storage, nomenclature and operation, basic marksmanship, and many other important subjects for the new gun owner or shooter. This is a pass/fail course with a 50 question written exam, and upon successful completion the student will be awarded an NRA Certificate.
For an additional $25, you can take the FSC Exam and upon passing, we will issue you a Firearms Safety Certificate which is required to purchase a firearm in California.

For those individuals or groups with a busy schedule, needing discretion, or who cannot attend a group class, our Private Basic Pistol & CCW Permit Private Class is a great option.
Our private classes can be taught at your home, office, one of our partner ranges, or at our classroom in Costa Mesa depending on the student's needs.
Our concierge/boutique style approach means we work around your schedule and we will teach at a location convenient for you. We offer our private classes 7 days a week.

PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2024, BSIS authorizes only the following calibers: .380, 9mm, .40, .45, .38, .357, and 10mm. This applies to initial applicants and those with existing Exposed Firearms Permits.
Cost includes Instructor Fee, Range Fee, and (1) NRA B-27 Target.

Class space is limited and appointments are required. Once you schedule your class dates, you will be required to attend on the appointed dates and times.
RESCHEDULING:
If you wish to change your class date, there is a $50.00 rescheduling fee so please attend on your selected class dates. Rescheduling is available no later than 7 days before the scheduled class date.
CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS:
Once registered, 50% of all fees are non-refundable. Those who request a refund or do not attend their selected course will be refunded 50% of the amount paid and they will need to register again.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a two-day course (8 Hours Classroom, 6 Hours Range) in the carrying and use of firearms given by a Bureau-Certified Firearms Training Instructor at a Bureau-Certified Training Facility.
Student must successfully pass the written and range exams at the end of the course.
Student must be a United States Citizen (Minimum age 21) or have Permanent Legal Alien Status (Proof Required).
Student must present an acceptable form of identification on Day #1 of the class. Acceptable forms of ID include: A Certified Birth Certificate, Valid US Passport, Valid Permanent Resident Card, Certified Certificate of Naturalization, a Valid US Military ID or DD-214. For additional forms of acceptable ID’s, please visit www.bsis.ca.gov
Beginning JANUARY 1, 2022, Students must complete a Firearms Assessment. The cost for this assessment is listed on the Bureaus website. Please visit www.bsis.ca.gov
WHAT TO EXPECT
Classroom Training: During your eight hours of classroom training, you will learn moral and legal aspects of firearms use, firearms nomenclature, weapons handling and shooting fundamentals, and emergency procedures.
Range Training: The six hours of range training will give you practice in safely handling and firing your weapon. Once you are issued a permit, you must re-qualify on the range twice a year before renewing your permit.
Renewals: Firearm permits expire two years from the date of issuance. An applicant must re-qualify four times during the life of the permit; Twice during the first year after the date of issuance, and twice during the second year.
Re-qualifications must be at least four months apart. And the application for renewal should be submitted to the Bureau within 60 days before the expiration date.
Firearm Rental and Ammunition: Firearm rentals are available at the range. If using a rental, students must purchase range ammunition.
Students should have the necessary number of rounds to complete the course of fire. (50 rounds for range qualification and 50 rounds for practice)
Students must qualify with the type of firearm they will be carrying on duty (revolver or semi-automatic) and caliber weapon. Students may qualify with more than one weapon, however, the 50 round qualifying course must be shot with each additional weapon.
